NURSE

We welcome nurses at different stages of their career. As a student you could do an internship with one of our programmes in France, then once you’re qualified you could join us as a paid employee or a volunteer.

MEET MORGANE,

A VOLUNTEER NURSE AT THE PARIS HEALTHCARE ADVICE AND REFERRAL CENTRE (CASO)

The autonomy you have when you’re providing nurse consultations at the CASO is very rewarding.

YOUR TASKS AS A NURSE WORKING WITH HUMANITARIAN ORGANISATION

  • If you work on one of our international programmes, the role of nurse involves delivering training, supervision and health education activities, as well as providing primary or mental healthcare, vaccinations or pharmacy management. Nursing positions on our programmes outside France are usually salaried posts in the country concerned, for which recruitment is carried out locally.
  • If you work in France, you will deliver healthcare, prevention and health education activities. Most of the nurses working on our programmes in France are volunteers.

REQUIREMENTS FOR WORKING IN THE HUMANITARIAN SECTOR

  • You will be representing Médecins du Monde so you should be seen to uphold our values and put them into practice.
  • If you work outside France, we ask that you have a good command of English or Spanish.
  • You will be required to work with people who are in very precarious situations, in multicultural environments and in security contexts that may sometimes be difficult or stressful, so you will need to have the capacity to adapt.
  • You will be working with a medical team and will need excellent training, leadership and management skills, as well as being a good team player. Patience and the ability to work independently and take the initiative will be valuable assets.
  • Strong organisational skills and good priority management are also essential qualities.

GOOD TO KNOW

- We seek to give all nursing candidates a chance but, depending on the programme, prior experience in the medical and social spheres or the humanitarian sector may be a requirement.
- It could be very helpful to have specialist knowledge of certain areas, such as public health, tropical medicine or anaesthesia.

YOUR FUTURE PROSPECTS AT MDM

Because we are committed to long-term collaboration with our partners and believe that staff who have had practical experience on the ground are an asset for any organisation, we offer nurses who work with us the opportunity to progress to more senior roles, such as medical coordinator or health advisor.
