GENERAL COORDINATOR

© Olivier Papegnies

General coordinators have accumulated extensive practical experience on the ground through previous roles as site coordinators, programme coordinators, administrative coordinators, medical coordinators or logistics coordinators.

YOUR TASKS

  • If you work outside France, the role of general coordinator is to supervise and implement all the activities of the programme in the country or region concerned. You lead teams, manage project planning and negotiate on the basis of the budget allocated to you. You represent Médecins du Monde in interactions with different partners and funders and you are responsible for the security of people and property. If the programme you are responsible for operates across multiple locations, you will work with a site coordinator for each location.
  • If you work in France, the role of general coordinator is to ensure the implementation and operational management of your programme, overseeing the administrative, financial, human resource and organisational dimensions.

REQUIREMENTS

  • You will be representing Médecins du Monde so you should be seen to uphold our values and put them into practice.
  • If you work outside France, we ask that you have a good command of English or Spanish.
  • You will be living and working in multicultural environments and in security contexts that may sometimes be difficult or stressful, so you will need to have the capacity to adapt.
  • You will be responsible for a team which might be quite large so you will need good management skills and should be a great team player.
  • The capacity to think systematically and see the overall picture, together with the ability to assess security contexts, will be essential in the coordination of often complex projects.
  • You will have to develop and implement detailed procedures and complex programmes so good organisational skills and an ability to prioritise will certainly be an asset.
  • You should be comfortable communicating verbally and in writing and have the ability to employ diplomacy when required and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders.

GOOD TO KNOW

We seek to give all candidates a chance but, depending on the programme, experience of managing public health projects or a medical or paramedical background may be an advantage.

YOUR FUTURE PROSPECTS AT MDM

Because we are committed to long-term collaboration with our partners and believe that staff who have had practical experience on the ground are an asset for any organisation, we offer our general coordinators the opportunity to progress to more senior roles, such as desk officer, regional coordinator in France or head of department.
