ADMINISTRATOR

© Benoit Guenot

No specific training is required to become an administrator. We seek to give all candidates a chance, but skills and experience in managing human and financial resources are essential. Depending on the programme, administrator positions on our programmes outside France are either salaried posts in the country concerned, for which recruitment is carried out locally, or salaried expatriate posts.

"The figures tell me what’s happening on the ground."

YOUR TASKS

  • The role of administrator for our programmes abroad or in France involves organising and ensuring the smooth and effective management of the administrative, financial, accounting, budgetary and human resource aspects of the programme.

REQUIREMENTS

  • You will be representing Médecins du Monde so you should be seen to uphold our values and put them into practice.
  • If you work outside France, we ask that you have a good command of English or Spanish.
  • You will be living and working in multicultural environments and in security contexts that may sometimes be difficult or stressful, so you will need to have the capacity to adapt.
  • You will be responsible for a team which might be quite large so you will need strong leadership and training skills, as well as being a great team player. Good familiarity with human resources procedures is also key.
  • To facilitate negotiation with funders you will need extensive knowledge of their procedures.
  • You may also be responsible for ensuring compliance with logistics procedures so you should be familiar with them.
  • The ability to think systematically and see the overall picture, together with excellent analytical skills and good administrative and financial knowledge, will be essential in the coordination of often complex projects.
  • To manage all these demands, flexibility, the ability to work independently and excellent organisational skills will be valuable assets.

GOOD TO KNOW

Knowledge of SAGA financial management software could be useful. Depending on the programme, a qualification in administration for humanitarian projects may be an advantage. In addition, our administrators have often had prior experience in the humanitarian sector.

YOUR FUTURE PROSPECTS AT MDM

Because we are committed to long-term collaboration with our partners and believe that staff who have had practical experience on the ground are an asset for any organisation, we offer administrators who work with us the opportunity to progress to more senior roles, such as administrative coordinator, then site coordinator, followed by general coordinator or financial controller.
