Equal access to healthcare and rights for all is at the heart of our work.
In France, Médecins du Monde meets, supports and enables access to rights and healthcare for the most disadvantaged groups. Our organisation supports an unconditional right to health protection for all, as a fundamental right and the basic principle of the construction of a high-quality healthcare system open to all.
Although in principle most people residing in France currently have the right to health protection covering a large part of their health expenses, insufficient information, the complexity of the system, varied practices among health insurance offices, the digitalisation of public services to the detriment of the most vulnerable people, and the differences between the rights and mechanisms accessible in mainland France and the overseas departments all constitute obstacles to healthcare for the people our teams support.
Vulnerable people without health protection and in need of healthcare often delay consultation, turning to specific facilities or emergency facilities which are often underequipped and saturated, and which prevents them from accessing the range of treatment necessary.
